Jackdaw 19
The new trailer is paying for itself
*Footnote*
I think this may be a very important point in the development of Jackdaw so I am adding this note just so I can remember the facts.
Because I am writing this diary retrospectively I did not know at the time how important meeting this seller would be so I will go into things a bit more in depth after the next couple of pages.
April 2006/written in June
15th April 2006
I said that back in February I was sure it was Mk2 running gear well not according to people who have looked at the photos. Everybody agrees it is definitely a Mk3 front end so I was advised to look for a complete car and as most bits are supposed to be interchangeable for Mk3/4/5 I was to look for a complete Mk5 apparently these are the cheapest and the easiest to find. This I did and eventually came across one locally on eBay up in Annfield Plain near Stanley, it was an unfinished project but I decided to take a look on the 11th April.
When we got there it was not really what I wanted but after a little chat the guy, who runs the garage, said he had a complete Mk5 which he would let me have for £100. A bargain, I thought, rough but a runner. I put a new battery in and it starts first time every time. Picked it up on the 13th April with the new trailer, towed lovely! It worked out perfectly because Mothers council garage in Newton Aycliffe was empty. It was a stroke of luck that it became available exactly the same time as I found the Cortina. It’s a little far away from home at about 5 miles but the rent is cheap. I keep going up to the garage and drive the Corty around the block now and then just for fun.
Of all the cars I have had in the past this is the first Cortina I have owned.
